There are basically two types of ladies shoe, Flat and Heels. The size for a shoe with a large heel should (in most cases) be one size larger than a Flat. The difference in size normally changes about the 4 inch heel height.

So for example: Mary takes a UK size 6 Flat shoe, and wishes to purchase a 5 inch Stilleto Shoe. She would purchase a size 6.5/7 because of the heel height.
